CBC News: Ice jam couldn’t stop this man from voting: “A man who’d been trapped for days in his New Brunswick home hiked through a huge ice jam to cast his ballot in the federal election”
Now that’s dedication. I have 2 friends who aren’t voting and I can’t convince them otherwise. One is not just from pure apathy – she sees no reason to vote and figures she’ll care when she’s older. The other “refuses to choose the lesser of two evils”. Of course I pointed out there are more than 2 choices (and Iactually don’t consider anyone “evil” even if many of us do paint the CPC that way), but she would here none of it.
I don’t know why, but it bothers me. Sure people have the choice to not vote, but come on, it wasn’t that long ago that women were not allowed to vote at all! Are we throwing away all the hard work that’s gone into the struggle for equal voting rights?
Yes there are problems with our voting system and yes a lot of people are going to be unhappy with the results of the election (whatever they may be), but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t at least try to change our fate.
BTW, did you see that you can get live election results from CTV to your mobile phone? Of course it doesn’t start til 10pm EST, but I probably won’t get home til about 12:30 so I won’t be able to watch the election coverage. Though some of you may be saying the end result is all that really matters; yet don’t you just love it when your heart skips a bit when a fave candidate or someone from yor party is elected or your stomach drops when someone you don’t like gets in? Ah the excitement!!
