All That Matters by Wayson Choy

I finished reading All That Matters a few weeks ago but didn’t post on it.

I really enjoyed it, though I think I enjoyed the Jade Peony more. All That Matters tells the story of a young Chinese immigrant to Vancouver set in the 20s/30s. It explores the relationships he has with his family, his homeland, his traditions.

I haven’t much to add to what’s been said before, but I will say that I was a bit disappointed because this book ends pretty much around the same place that the Jade Peony does and I want more. I want to see Kiam-Kim (or any of the children) grow up; I want to see what happens! I don’t want to be left to my own imagination, because that’s just boring. Definitely a good read though, so go ahead and add it to your “to read” list.
