Reference shifts?

I’m hoping someone out there will know this…I’m looking for info on reference shifts, like standards or guidelines. I thought I remembered some report saying that a 2 hour shift was optimal, but for the life of me I can’t find anything like this so maybe I’m just making it up?

I’ve searched some databases and Googled and browsed the RUSA site, but couldn’t find anything that I’m looking for. All the standards I’ve found for service are great, but I wanted something aimed more at personnel, scheduling, etc.
